The ever popular breeding ground for future Major League Baseball stars, the Arizona Fall League has announced their preliminary rosters for this fall and the Baltimore Orioles will send seven Minor Leaguers to the desert.
This year's group will be playing for the Glendale Desert Dogs, as players from each MLB organization take part in the Arizona Fall League and rotate as to which team their players play for.
Baltimore will be sending C Michael Ohlman (Bowie), INF Jason Esposito (Frederick), OF Dariel Alvarez (Norfolk) and pitchers Parker Bridwell (Frederick), Zach Davies (Bowie), Mychal Givens (Bowie) and Ashur Tolliver (Bowie).
Each team in the Arizona Fall League has a roster of 35 players and each MLB organization is required to provide seven players subject to the guidelines that allow a player to be eligible.
Last year, both Alvarez and Ohlman were among the Orioles players playing for the Surprise Sequeros that took home the AFL Championship. Alvarez also took part in the MLB Future's Game this season as a member of the World Team.
Alvarez was the only name that really surprised us here, as it was a thought that perhaps he could be a September call-up for the Orioles once rosters expand on September 1, but the odds of that happening now are much lower considering that the organization is already planning on him playing in the Arizona Fall League that begins their games on October 7.
We here at Orioles101 love the AFL and will provide updates of the seven O's taking part in it once their season begins, so stay tuned!
