It's time for another edition of Orioles101 Baltimore Orioles Minor League Spotlight and this week we head towards the ocean a little bit as we highlight Delmarva Shorebirds catcher Chance Sisco, who is putting together quite a 2014 campaign.
The Orioles second round draft choice in the 2013 MLB Draft out of Santiago High School in Corona, CA, has had an impressive first full professional season in the O's organization.
Among qualifiers, the 19 year old catcher is currently leading all South Atlantic League hitters with a .345 batting average this season, and has also added 50 RBI, four home runs and 21 doubles. He is also showing a good eye at the plate as he has drawn 34 walks and has boasted a .414 on base percentage, which also leads the South Atlantic League.
He has been consistent all season, which is a good sign for a young player who is playing in his full professional season, especially for a catcher. Sisco had a very nice first half that saw him hit .310 with three home runs and 23 RBI in 48 games, but he has gotten even better in the second half as he is hitting .384 with one home run and 27 RBI in 39 games.
The Orioles have easily taken notice of Sisco's performance, and the organization named him the Player of the month for June earlier this summer after he hit .404 with a home run, eight doubles and 19 RBI in 24 June games.
Already regarded as a good prospect, Sisco has seen his stock rise significantly this season, as the recently updated Orioles prospects list by MLB.com has Sisco as the best offensive prospect, and third best prospect in the entire organization behind Dylan Bundy and Hunter Harvey.
If you have not heard of Sisco, you will want to make yourself very familiar with this young man as he is not only turning heads in the Orioles organization, but in all of baseball.
