This week we take a rare break from our Orioles101 Mailbag segment on Sunday’s to instead talk about the wonderful string of events that are about to take place in part of the Baltimore Orioles 60th anniversary celebration.
In case you missed it, the Orioles are celebrating their 60th anniversary this season since the team arrived from St. Louis and began playing in 1954.
Last week, the Orioles announced several upcoming events via press release celebrating the anniversary.
The biggest date to remember will be August 8 when the O’s take on the St. Louis Cardinals as the team will be welcoming 24 Orioles Hall of Famers as part of a “spectacular post-game celebration.” The O’s Hall of Famers expected to attend are Eddie Murray, Cal Ripken Jr., Brooks Robinson, Frank Robinson, Jim Palmer, Brady Anderson, Mike Bordick, Don Buford, Al Bumbry, Doug DeCinces, Rick Dempsey, Dick Hall, Chris Hoiles, Bill Hunter, Dennis Martinez, Tippy Martinez, Scott McGregor, Ray Miller, Gregg Olson, Milt Pappas, Boog Powell, Ken Singleton, B.J. Surhoff, and Eddie Watt.
Quite a list of Orioles legends!
Those O’s legends will be introduced on the field during a laser light and fireworks display, which will feature highlights from the Orioles’ 60 years in Baltimore.
Are you one of those rare members of the Orioles family who have been a season plan holder since the team arrived in 1954? If so, the Orioles will honor those holders in a special pre-game ceremony prior to the August 8 game.
Love throwback uniforms? The Orioles will wear 1954 replica throwback uniforms during the August 8 contest and will later autograph them for an auction that will be held on the Orioles website to raise funds for the Baltimore Orioles Charitable Foundation.
In addition to the festivities that will take place on August 8, the Orioles will also be having a 60th Anniversary 3/4 sleeve t-shirt giveaway on August 1, and a Wild Bill Cowboy Hat giveaway on August 9.
Of course, the best thing that could happen during this 60th Anniversary season would be for the Orioles to end their 31 year World Series Championship drought!
