Sometime amid the grind that is the Major League Baseball season, we forget that the players do more than just play America's Pastime. Nick and Christina Markakis, along with Orioles REACH, will once again pair with the Casey Cares Foundation to host the fifth annual Casey Cares 5K run/walk the Baltimore Orioles announced via press release earlier this week.
This year's run/walk will take place at Oriole Park at Camden Yards on Saturday August 2 at 8:00 a.m. prior to the O's taking on the Seattle Mariners that night.
Markakis and his wife will serve as race ambassadors, while Keith Mills, the sports director of 98 Rock and WBAL Radio will be the event's emcee.
This is a fantastic event that the Markakis's have been huge supporters of.
"Nick and I could not be happier to team up with Casey Cares for the 5k race again this year," said Christina Markakis in the press release. "These children are so brave and such an inspiration to us, that we are honored to be a part of the Casey Cares programs and we look forward to seeing all of the runners that also care so much for these critically ill children and their families."
Anyone can register for the 3.1 mile run/walk that will begin at 8:00 a.m. at Oriole Park and the journey ends on the field. All participants will partake in a pre-race warm-up with the Oriole Bird, music and other entertainment as well as enjoy post-race refreshments. Believe you have what it takes to win the race/run? The team also announced that the top race winners will be announced in a pre-game ceremony at the Orioles 7:07 p.m. game that night.
If you would like to register you can do so now through the race day of August 2, and you can register as a team or an individual. The team stated that the entry fee is $35 per person through August 1, or $40 on race day and if you would like to regisiter you can do so here: orioles.com/caseycares .
All proceeds of the 5K will benefit the Casey Cares Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit that provides personalized, uplifting, and ongoing programs with a special touch to critically ill children and their family members throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.
It is always great to see our Orioles players taking part in events such as these and it will be a great day on August 2.
