There are several intriguing names from the mass list that is the 2014 draft class, but we want to highlight a few of them. The first of which is the Orioles first selection, the third rounder out of Archbishop McCarthy (Fla.), LHP Brian Gonzalez. Gonzalez, who will report to the Gulf Coast League, tossed 69 1/3 innings in his senior year and posted a 10-0 record with a 0.50 ERA and struck out 129 batters. He also tossed back-to-back no hitters in the regional playoffs this season.

Another interesting pick was their fourth round selection, RHP Pat Connaughton, who plays both baseball and basketball at Notre Dame and will play his senior season for the Fighting Irish basketball team and will be fully committed to baseball starting next spring. Connaughton has a good fastball and posted a 3.92 ERA with 36 strikeouts in ten starts this season for the Irish, but admitted that some of his inconsistencies in baseball came about because it was not always his primary focus.

Now, there is very little expectations out of a 40th round selection, but we wanted to highlight OF T.J. Olesczuk because hey, he was drafted too and had an impressive career at Winthrop. The right handed hitter posted a career average of .324 and was a 2014 First Team All-Big South performer as he hit .389, which was second in the conference, and ranked in the top ten in six offensive categories.

Baltimore has already announced that they have signed eight of their draft picks, which include their 3rd, 4th, 5th, 8th, 10th, 31st, 32nd and 35th round selections. The Orioles have until July 18 to sign their draft picks.
