Incase you have missed our previous Baltimore Orioles Minor League spotlights, you will notice a lot of them have been on Orioles AA affiliate Bowie Baysox players. Bowie's offense has been absolutely phenomenal this season and who better to go to than the man who calls play by play for the team, thus we sat down with Baysox play by play broadcaster Adam Pohl to talk Baysox.

Pohl has seen a lot of the Orioles prospects over the years and this year he is getting to see some of the bigger names in the organization and we thought you, our readers, would enjoy seeing what he thinks about certain players and the team as a whole.

So let's get to it shall we?

Orioles101:   The offense has been phenomenal this season and has been highly impressive, but which player have you been most impressed with at the plate seeing as you get to see every at bat being the voice of the Baysox?

My favorite players to watch hit are Dariel Alvarez and Niuman Romero.

Alvarez is so aggressive and squares up everything it seems. He does not walk but also rarely strikes out. I'm looking forward to how he develops in trying to wait for his pitch. I think he has made strides in that already this year.

Romero is a vet who has seen time in the bigs with the Indians and Red Sox. He is not a prospect type but has a great eye for the strikezone and works so many long AB's. He has a tough time with guys with good velocity but he has a fantastic approach.

Orioles101: Sticking with the offense, which player do you think has been the biggest surprise with his production at the plate?

I think both Garabez Rosa and Christian Walker.

Rosa has learned to take the ball the other way. I saw a bit of this in Frederick but he has improved greatly in handling fastball's on the outer half of the plate. He has also played well in the field when at 2B and in the OF.

Walker has had the clutch gene. He is young to the pro game but is very confident at the plate and an outstanding hitter. It seems like every HR he hits is a 3-R HR. I think Earl would have loved him for that! Can hit both the good FB and breaking pitches. He is showing more power than he did in Frederick.

Orioles101: One more on the offense, has the team been doing the little things (I.E. moving runners over, stealing bases, sacrifice bunting, hit and run) to score runs or has it been more of a power display with home runs and extra base hits?

It has been playing for the big inning. Tons of hits, doubles and HR's. Bowie has hit into the most double plays and stolen the fewest bases by far in the league. This team goes up there to hit. Baserunning has been good though for the most part. And the team has fielded well as well.

Orioles101: Tim Berry has been performing very well on the mound, especially considering this is his first year above the High-A level, how has he looked and which pitch do you think has been the key to his success?

I've seen Tim for 3 years now and am very impressed with how he has improved. So many players are what they are. Tim has improved fastball command and now all of a sudden has a solid change up. If he continues to advance like he has in the last few years he has a great future ahead.

Orioles101: Sometimes the forgotten aspect of a team, although not in the Orioles organization, how has the team performed defensively thus far?

I think you'd be surprised as to how important defense is to all levels of the Orioles system. This team has fielded the ball very well – especially in the infield. They could do a better job of slowing the running game but that is about it. Alvarez has been great in centerfield but sometimes is too aggressive with his outstanding arm. Jonathan's brother Sharlon can play everywhere in the infield and has been outstanding.

Orioles101: Last one for you, as enjoyable as the team has had to be to watch this season, for the fans that have not been to a Baysox game, what kind of an experience can fans expect at the ball park?

Great level of baseball and also great affordable family fun. You'll get to sit close and see these rising prospects in a clean, safe environment with many fun activities in-game and around the ballpark other than the game itself. A great family night out.

We would like to thank Adam for taking the time to answer a few Baysox questions for us, and if you cannot get out to the ball park, most, if not all Baysox games are broadcast online where you can hear Adam call the action, so be sure to check it out.
