The much anticipated return of Platinum Glove winning third baseman Manny Machado has come as Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reported earlier today that the Baltimore Orioles will activate Machado tonight if the game is played.
Others have since confirmed the report of Rosenthal.
So why the "if the game is played"? Well the weather forecast is absolutely terrible for the next 48 hours with rain followed by rain and then followed by more rain.
Baltimore placed Chris Davis on the DL over the weekend and did not announce a corresponding roster move, which led to many people speculating that the team was just waiting to see if Machado would be ready to go by this series, and they ended up being right.
Machado went 8-12 during his three games while on rehab assignment with the High-A Frederick Keys and was hitting the ball very hard as we were there scouting him this past Saturday. He looked good defensively, but it was obvious he was holding some back as to not risk anything.
His bat will be a welcome addition to an offense that has been very volatile this season thus far and hopefully Machado's presence can help stabilize the lineup a little bit.
Of course, it is Machado's glove that speaks the loudest after his Gold Glove and Platinum Glove award winning 2013 season, and Orioles fans have had to see O's third basemen commit five errors already this season.
If rainy baseball days were not depressing enough, but with the news that Machado will be activated if the team plays will make several Orioles fans do the anti rain dance for the rest of the day in hopes of seeing the youngster back in Baltimore.
