It is almost 2014, and that means we are getting ever closer to Spring Training, but before we get there, the Baltimore Orioles will host a four-day minicamp beginning January 13 in Sarasota, Florida.

The goal of the minicamp is to give some of the pitchers in the organization a chance to get some work with O's new Pitching Coach Dave Wallace.

These minicamps are an interesting phenomena in baseball as the team itself cannot invite players directly, and must have Major League Baseball contact each player's agent to extend an invitation. In addition, the Orioles cannot invite any player that is still arbitration eligible, and minicamp stipulations include 15 non-arbitration eligible players and non-roster players.

Now that the specifics are out of the way, who is going to be there?

It is expected that both Dylan Bundy and Manny Machado with both get invitations from MLB as Bundy is rehabbing from Tommy John surgery, and Machado rehabbing from that gruesome knee injury at the end of last season. Obviously there will be some catchers invited, and it is expected that prospects Eduardo Rodriguez and Mike Wright could also be extended invites.

"I've learned that there's some talent that's yet to be untapped," Wallace said of his early impressions of the Orioles' pitching staff on the Orioles official website." And by that I mean in today's world some guys have to learn at the Major League level, and that's a process that's a little bit more difficult than it sounds. Everybody talks about having experience. Well experience is great, but really what do you do with that experience, can you take it to the next level?"

We will not know the official list of players who will be attending the minicamp until we get closer, but we will keep you posted on all happenings and news regarding the minicamp.

The hope is that Wallace, and new bullpen coach Dom Chiti can come in and help some of the younger pitchers realize the "potential" that so many experts and scouts have placed on them. Baltimore desperately needs its pitching to improve in 2014, especially the starting rotation.
