Nolan Reimold and Steve Pearce Avoid Arbitration; Orioles Tender Six Others

The headline of the night was the Baltimore Orioles sending closer Jim Johnson to the Oakland Athletics in exchange for Jemile Weeks and a player to be named later, but they also signed outfielders Nolan Reimold and Steve Pearce to contracts, while tendering offers to their other six arbitration eligible players.

Baltimore continued their willingness to stick behind Reimold as they did not only give him a guaranteed contract, but even gave him a $25,000 raise from last season as they agreed on a one-year $1.025 million deal. His deal also includes just under $200,000 in incentives that he could garner as well.

Reimold made $1 million last season and was only able to play 40 games after his neck was again a problem for the right hander as he ended up having to have a second surgery to fuse vertebrae in his neck. In 2013, he hit .195 with three doubles, five homers and 12 RBI, but Baltimore seems to be stuck on his 2012 when he came out on fire, but was only able to play 16 games before the neck injury ended his season.

The Orioles also agreed to terms with Steve Pearce on a one year $850,000 deal. Pearce also received a raise from last season when he made $700,000. Pearce hit .261 with seven doubles, four homers and 13 RBIs in 44 games, but was limited due to a wrist injury.

To sum up the rest of the night, Baltimore tendered their other six arbitration eligible players: Chris Davis, Matt Wieters, Troy Patton, Tommy Hunter, Bud Norris, and Brian Matusz.

Also news to note is that OF Jason Pridie and RHP Eddie Gamboa were not tendered contracts and have been removed from the 40-man roster.
