It's time for our latest edition of Minor League Monday and today we are going to hand out our 2013 Baltimore Orioles Minor League Player of the Year awards. We have selected one position player and one pitcher to receive our Player of the Year awards.

We will begin by stating that this was no easy task as there were several players that deserved recognition, but we dove through numerous stats, scouting reports and our own experiences in seeing players in action over the course of 2013 to select our two winners.

Orioles101 Minor League Pitcher of the Year: Mike Wright

If you have not yet heard of Mike Wright, you will in the very near future as he is considered one of the best pitching prospects in the Orioles system and a legitimate contender to join the Orioles at some point in the 2014 season. Wright was a third round selection in the 2011 MLB Draft out of East Carolina and has not disappointed thus far.

Currently ranked as the fifth best prospect in the Baltimore organization by MLB Pipeline, Wright spent most of his season pitching for the AA Bowie Baysox and went 11-3 with a 3.26 ERA in 143 2/3 innings. He had a very impressive 3.48 strikeout per walk ratio as he struck out 136 with Bowie, while only walking 39.

Wright also got the opportunity late in the season to make a start for the AAA Norfolk Tides and was very impressive as he tossed 6 2/3 scoreless innings while striking out two and walking none.

Other guys such as Eduardo Rodriguez, Sebastian Vader and Tim Berry were also among those considered.

Orioles101 Minor League Position Player of the Year: Caleb Joseph

As tough as it was to select a pitcher for our Minor League Player of the Year, we did not feel it nearly as tough to select the Postion Player of the Year as Joseph was absolutely phenomenal this season. Joseph was a seventh round selection of the Orioles in the 2008 MLB draft out of Lipscomb University.

He played the entire season with the Baysox and posted a .299 average with 22 home runs, 31 doubles, 97 RBI and an impressive .840 OPS. In addition, he recorded 155 hits, 74 runs, 256 total bases and posted a .346 on base percentage.

How good was he? Well he earned a Player of the Week Award for the Eastern Shore League during the season, was named a EAS Post-Season All Star and was also named the Topps Eastern Shore League Player of the Year.

Joseph was one of the most dominant offensive players in the Orioles organization this year and vastly improved his power numbers.

He also played in the Venezuela Winter League this fall and posted a .231 average with three homers, 11 RBI, and four doubles in 91 at bats.

Other guys such as Henry Urrutia, Christian Walker and Michael Ohlman were also among those considered.

Congratulations to both Wright and Joseph for being named our 2013 Orioles101 Minor League Players of the Year and we look forward to seeing how they both improve in 2014 and if they can perhaps make a difference for the big league club.
