It was the final post game fireworks night of the season for the Baltimore Orioles, but the Boston Red Sox provided some early fireworks on the field as they routed the Orioles 12-3 Friday Night.
Orioles starting pitcher Scott Feldman (5-6) had by far his worst outing as an Oriole and was simply leaving pitches over the middle of the plate and Boston hitters were not missing. Feldman allowed eight runs on eight hits with one walk and one strikeout in just 2 1/3 innings of work.
Surprisingly, his outing included a seven pitch second inning that appeared to be a bounce back, but it was not the case. Feldman was trying to bounce back from a first inning that saw him allow five runs on five hits, including a three run homer from Daniel Nava. The second inning was merely a mirage as he proceeded to allow three more earned runs in the third inning on three hits and was able to record just one out in the inning before Zach Britton was brought in and the top of the third inning ended with the Orioles trailing 8-0.
The game was essentially over before it even got started last night for the Birds, but they did come back to score two in the third inning to attempt to make a game out of it. Adam Jones delivered a two run for his 33rd of the season.
Baltimore was held off the scoreboard for the next couple of innings until Chris Davis unleashed his 53rd home run of the season in the sixth inning, a solo shot to make it a 8-3 game at the time. Davis' homer produced his 138th RBI, which now leads the Majors, while it was also his 28th home run of the season in Baltimore, which sets a new franchise record for home runs at home in a single season, breaking Frank Robinson's record set in 1966.
The O's will look to get back on track tonight as they send Wei-Yin Chen (7-7) to the mound for the start and is scheduled to face Jon Lester (15-8), but it is not inconceivable that the Red Sox may scratch Lester, now that they have clinched home field advantage throughout the AL Playoffs.
