Boston Celtics appear to be adding gold-trimmed uniforms to the mix

By: John Karalis | October 18, 2018 This comes to us via (hat tip to @boo_hickey)… According to Chris Creamer of I’ve been told it’s actually their “City” uniform. The uniform is white with “BOSTON” across the front in green with gold trim. The unveil date for this hasn’t been announced… but they could dropping soon. This almost feels like a nod to the original Celtics logo from 1946 I don’t know what you all think, but I like it. I love gold mixed into the alternate uniforms. I was always a fan of the gold in the St....

#CeltKicks: Boston Celtics debut wild styles in season opener

By: John Karalis | October 17, 2018 The NBA really loosened the reigns on what players can wear on the floor. This is as good a time as any to bring back our old CeltKicks feature, which looks at the shoes the guys are wearing on the court. Kyrie Irving in Kyrie 4 PE Thin unnamed Kyrie 4 PE has a lot going on, including the all-seeing eye, a peace sign, and an eagle… which appears to be a nod to his Native American heritage. The gold swoosh pops. I’m a huge fan of gold along with the green...

Harnessing the Boston Celtics firepower still a work in progress

By: John Karalis | October 16, 2018 The following is an excerpt from my subscription Patreon site.  When Will Smith’s “Agent J” fires the “Noisy Cricket” for the first time in Men In Black, the recoil sends him flying into a wall, into the trash, and through a windshield. He has no idea how to handle that kind of firepower. Sort of like the 2018-19 Boston Celtics. All five starters are capable of going off for long stretches, entire games, or even days at a time. Harnessing that has been tough, though, and figuring out how to handle that...

Jayson Tatum's wild opening night sneakers honor his son

By: John Karalis | October 15, 2018 The NBA recently loosened its rules on restricting colors players could wear on their sneakers… and some guys are really taking advantage… like the Boston Celtics own Jayson Tatum for example. Nike released a batch of photos showing us some of the wildest colorways players will rock to start the season. Tatum really went out there with it. Image via These are the NikeiD PG2 “Coloring Book,” but even though they’re waaaaaaay out there color-wise, there’s a very adorable reason for these colors.  This polychromatic colorway is inspired by the NBA sophomore’s...

How much quicker is Gordon Hayward's jump shot?

By: John Karalis | October 15, 2018 For those who don’t know, I’ve launched a subscription service for some of the more in-depth basketball writing. For $2 a month, you can subscribe to my Patreon for multiple pieces like this in addition to college scouting reports of potential draft picks and other work. I’ll still provide you daily free updates and reactions as usual here on RedsArmy, but now that I’m a full-time Celtics reporter (read more about that here) I’m asking for $2 a month for some of the more labor-intensive work. Here is my first piece.  It’s a...

Your Morning Dump… Where Mook is in it to win it

By: John Karalis | October 14, 2018 Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big story line. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. “That’s the whole thing, being in the league for eight years, I’ve really never been on a contending team,” Morris said. “This year, I think we’re going to win it. All the other stuff that’s involved isn’t important now. Obviously I want to get paid, we all know that, coming off the [expletive] contract that I got, I definitely want to get paid....

Who's better: Terry Rozier or Marcus Smart?

By: John Karalis | October 12, 2018 Jackie Mac on Terry: “Rozier is a better player than Marcus Smart. I don’t think anyone would disagree, yet Smart has wormed his way firmly into Brad Stevens’ aorta. He’s living there.” — Chuck M. (@RedsArmy_Chuck) October 12, 2018 Jackie MacMullan causally mentioned that Terry Rozier is a better player than Marcus Smart but Brad Stevens basically loves Smart so Smart’s going to be the guy who gets called on first. It’s an interesting debate, so let’s dive into it a little bit. Let’s start with this… this is not an...
