Baseball Gloves in 2018 – from Baseball Express

Apart from the bat, the baseball glove (or mitt) is very likely the most important and recognizable piece of baseball equipment. Due to this reason, when you’re in the market for a new glove, the available selection is simply daunting and can make you fell anxious about picking a bad or wrong one. Luckily, there’s actually method to this madness and we will guide you step-by-step in picking the perfect glove for you. The very first criterion that we’ll need to address is your type of throw: left or right handed. Pretty straight forward: if you’re throwing with your right hand, then you’ll need a left hand glove and vice-versa. Then, the very next filter is the position you will be playing in, more specifically if you’re going to be infield or outfield. Just to get this out of the way: for the purpose of this article, we will consider pitchers as being infield. So, the difference generally lies in the length of the glove, with outfield players needing longer ones, as well as the size of the pocket which should be slightly larger for the outfielders. Infielders, pitchers included, need shorter, smaller gloves so the ball is easier to be taken out and thrown. From here on, things get a bit more complicated as we move on to the webbing shape/pattern, but since we already went through the...

Minnesota Vikings Training Camp Updates

Minnesota Vikings training camp kicks off this week, so here are the best position battles to watch.  This should be a great season for the Vikings.  In fact, many online bookmakers suggest that this should be a year in which the Vikings win 10 or more games and claim the NFC North title. Third Running Back Dalvin Cook and Latavius Murray will see the bulk of the playing time in the backfield in 2018. However, Jerick McKinnon wound up in San Francisco during free agency, leaving a hole in the running back depth chart. That spot is up for grabs as Mack Brown will compete with two undrafted free agents, Mike Boone from Cincinnati and Roc Thomas from Jacksonville State. Brown has the NFL experience that the other guys lack. He has spent time with the Houston Texans, Washington Redskins, and Minnesota Vikings in his NFL career but hasn’t seen the field much. Boone is a very athletic but very small back. His ability to play in space and his speed with the ball will give him the ability to fill McKinnon’s role in the offense. He didn’t post incredible numbers at Cincinnati, so he will have to prove himself over the next month. Thomas is a former four-star recruit who initially signed with Auburn. After limited playing time, Thomas transferred to Jacksonville State and dominated. He finished his...

Your NFL Fantasy Draft: Cleveland Browns

The Cleveland Browns have been busier than almost any other NFL franchise this off-season. Active in trades, free agency, and the draft, the Browns orchestrated a monstrous overhaul almost overnight. The team has a new quarterback room, some new staff, and an almost unrecognizable defensive backfield. Experts and fans alike seem to be quite high on the new-look Browns. HBO’s Hard Knocks docuseries is covering the team during camp. It is almost as if the long run of failures in Cleveland has been pushed to the side, leaving a glaring question that seems to be going unasked: are expectations too high? Whether the Browns end up putting up wins on the field remains to be seen.  However, their overhauled roster certainly as the potential to make some noise when it comes to fantasy football season.  The 2018 number one overall pick, Baker Mayfield could be a very solid pickup, and you can use your draft promo code to lock in your chance to draft him to your fantasy squad. Off-Season Boredom The off-season is a time for speculation. Each team changes at least slightly and hopes to build on last season’s successes or correct last season’s failures. Expectations change as the rosters do. Analysts and fans alike make bold claims across the board simply trying to whet their football appetites before the season kicks off this fall. That off-season break in...

The Pirates are Getting Ready to Call up Kevin Newman

The Pittsburgh Pirates have a handful of prospects who many are expecting to be called up sooner rather than later. Since Austin Meadows’ first stint in Pittsburgh was cut short, lets look into who we could be seeing next. Kevin Newman was drafted 19th overall in 2015 out of the University of Arizona and has been on a solid pace through the Pittsburgh Pirates minor league system ever since. Calling up Newman to the majors could inject some serious life into the Pirates’ season.  With many sports books offerin a bonus for new players, now would be a great time to look into betting on Pirates games and other baseball contests. Despite a lack of power, Newman’s key attribute is his hitting tool along with a solid but not great glove. His speed is also graded above average. Being drafted out of college, he’s supposed to have a quicker path laid out for him than that of say Cole Tucker, who was drafted by the team in the first round, out of high school, in 2014. At the time, Jordy Mercer’s age was slowly creeping upward, the team needed a guy to be ready to go by 2019 or 2020. This season Newman has spent all of 2018 in Triple A Indianapolis and was recently named an International League All-Star. Offensively, he serves as the Indians’ leadoff hitter and he’s...

The Pittsburgh Pirates are showing their frustrations

The Pittsburgh Pirates have been down in the dumps over the past month-and-a-half, that much I don’t have to tell you.  It’s still fun to bet on the team at sites like Betmeister, but to say it has been frustrating for fans is an understatement; now imagine it from a players perspective. The team is 12-31 over their last 43 games, spanning back from May 18. That’s atrocious considering the team entered that day 26-18 and only a half game back in the National League Central. But during that stretch, it seemed like business as usual, from the front office down to the players. Especially for the players, that is their job to just go out and play and not worry about what they can’t control. It’s just pure P.R. However, as a human, one can only handle so much. The time has finally come that the players are beginning to let their voices be heard around the media and on the field. I, for one, love to see it. Taillon wants the ball In his most recent post-start interview, Jameson Taillon questioned Clint Hurdle’s call to remove him from the game in the seventh inning, after just 77 pitches. According to Bill Brink, of the Post-Gazette, Hurdle cited Taillon’s lacking numbers for the third time through the order and into the seventh inning for his removal. Regardless of...

Fight Card for UFC 229 Taking Shape

UFC 229 will take place in the T-Mobile arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on October 6th and while it appears as if Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Conor Mcgregor will steal all the headlines, there are other notable bouts rumoured to be taking place on the night which could give it a “fight card of the year” potential. A new weight division for men has been mooted by chief Dana White and UFC 229 could be the event where a new title is created for 165lbs (75kg). American Kevin Lee has been extremely vocal about potentially fighting Canadian Georges St-Pierre for a newly created belt. At a recent event in Sinagapore he is quoted as saying: “The 155lb and 170lb (divisions) are so messed up right now. You’ve got three titles between the two divisions already, so they’ve got to add another weight class. I think me and Georges for the 165lb title makes the most amount of sense.” Elsewhere on the potential fight card for UFC 229, Rafael Dos Anjos could be taking on the much talked about “Nigerian Nightmare” Kamaru Usman in the welterweight division. Dos Anjos is coming off a loss to Colby Covington for the interim welterweight title at UFC 225 while Usman remains undefeated (8-0) following a demolition of Demian Maia in May. A high-profile win for Kamaru would see him vault into the reckoning for...

What Is the Future of Sports TV?

Whether you’re watching ESPN or a favorite sports channel on DISH Latino, you probably have noticed some subtle – and other not so subtle – changes in sports TV over the years. What exactly are these changes, though? What’s causing them? However, the changes we’ve seen so far prompt an even bigger question? While we’ve seen plenty of changes in sports TV, what changes will we see? What is the future of sports TV? In this article, we will take a look at what you can expect from sports TV in the coming years. It Won’t Be Limited to Cable Right now, we think of sports TV as something that comes with a cable package. It’s the same mentality that we have with news networks – if you want to watch a news show, your first instinct is to turn to your cable package. Times and technology are changing rapidly, though. Streaming services are already dipping their toe into carrying news shows on their services. Hulu, for example, has an entire section devoted to cable networks and even offers, for an extra fee, users to get live TV or HBO added to their streaming package. With this in mind, it only makes sense that we will soon be able to stream the big game and the reaction of sports journalists’ reactions to it. To reference the earlier example, Hulu’s...

Could a Mets/Pirates Trade Be In The Works?

After reports from Jon Paul Morosi last week that suggested the Pittsburgh Pirates could be sellers at the trade deadline, Pirates general manager Neal Huntington quickly chimed in that he was looking to add to the current club, rather than sell.  On the other side of the coin, the New York Mets have made it clear that they are shopping top of the rotation pitchers Jacob deGrom and Noah Syndergaard. That fills a big need for the Pirates and the Bucs and Mets have been is discussions before. In fact, Oregon Sports Betting has heavily weighted both teams odds of making the playoffs based on the teams striking a deal to benefit the Pirates. The question then becomes could the Pirates get involved in the deGrom or Syndergaard sweepstakes. Realize I said COULD and not WOULD. Why either pitcher makes sense Obviously the Bucs are in need of a top of the rotation starter and either guy would fill the need. According to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal, the Mets would need a huge return package if they want to deal either of their star pitchers: “A team interested in deGrom would need to part with a “boatload” of talent, one source said. The Mets would be more open on right-hander Noah Syndergaard, who has not pitched since May 25 due to a strained ligament in his right finger. Syndergaard is...

Breaking Down NBA Free Agency

The NBA offseason never fails to disappoint, but this one looks to be on a whole different level. Kawhi Leonard reportedly wants out of San Antonio, LeBron James rumors are running rampant, and every team is still trying to catch to the Golden State Warriors. On top of all that, this year’s free agent class is riddled with talent. If you are interested, here is a look at the top ten free agents this offseason and where each of them could wind up. LEBRON JAMES LeBron James had arguably one of the best postseason performances in NBA history this season. His Herculean effort was enough to bring the Cavaliers to the Finals, but it was not enough to defeat Golden State.  This offseason LeBron will be looking for a destination that will offer him the best chance to win. James’ relationship with Dan Gilbert does not appear to be getting better, so Cleveland has their backs up against the wall. This decision will likely come down to the Cavaliers, Rockets, Celtics, 76ers and Lakers. Financial limitations will take the Celtics and Rockets out of the running. It’s been reported the Celtics  believe adding LeBron James will not be possible. Therefore, I believe it is a two-team race between Los Angeles and Philadelphia. Philadelphia’s young nucleus will be a major draw for James, but I believe Magic Johnson will be able to create a strong enough...
