After going down to the Los Angeles Clippers in their first game of The Las Vegas Summer League, the Atlanta Hawks were set to face the Miami Heat's summer squad. The game was a little ugly early on but the Hawks began to catch a groove and they won the game with Mike Scott hitting the go ahead three pointer with 15 seconds left in the game. That shot gave Atlanta 73-70 lead and they would go on to win the game by a score of 75-71. John Jenkins led the team with 19 points and four rebounds and Scott had 13 points. Dennis Schroder had nine points, eight assists and four steals, Lucas Nogueira scored eight points to with four boards and two blocks while fellow rookie Mike Muscala added six points and three blocks in the win.
The next game was against the San Antonio Spurs and the Atlanta Hawks started off with a lead but they were not able to hold on. They lost the game by a score of 96-87. Mike Scott led the way for the Hawks with 27 points and seven rebounds. John Jenkins scored 15 points, Jared Cunningham put in 12. For the rookies Dennis Schroder scored eight points, Lucas Nogueira had six and Mike Muscala added four.
With a record of 1-2 in pool play, the Hawks drew the Portland Trail Blazers for their first game of tournament action. Atlanta led by 10 points at the half. Again, the Hawks were unable to hold on to the advantage as the Spurs went on a 20-11 point run in the fourth quarter to tie the game. With a final possession, the Atlanta Hawks went to John Jenkins for the final shot but he missed and the game went into overtime. In overtime, the Hawks were not able to score a basket from the field after Schroder got the ball to Mike Muscala in the paint but Muscala missed the hook and the Hawks lost 70-69. Mike Scott again led the team with 19 points and nine boards, Dennis Schroder scored 16 points and five assists (with six turnovers), John Jenkins added 13 points and four rebounds.
Up next for the Hawks is a game with the Sacramento Kings, the meet in the losers bracket on Friday at six o'clock eastern time.
