The Atlanta Hawks and Paul Millsap have agreed to terms on a two year contract for $19 million. Millsap averaged 14.6 points per game and seven rebounds at power forward for the Utah Jazz last season. He is an active defender and good offensively around the bucket. While he is undersized at 6'8", he is also one of the most under rated players in the league. It will be interesting to see how Atlanta will match him up with Al Horford, considering everyone believes that the idea was to move Al to the four spot.
The Atlanta Hawks also agreed to terms with DeMarre Carroll for two years $5 million. Carroll also came from the Utah Jazz and he averaged six points and about three rebounds. The small forward is also known for his defense and his energy on the floor, but his offensive game is really lacking. Some see these signings as a sign that Josh Smith will not be back, but the Dwight Howard move to the Houston Rockets may have been more telling than anything.
Speaking of Dwight Howard going to Houston, since the move has been made it has been rumored that the Atlanta Hawks will sign and trade Josh Smith to the Rockets. In return, the Rockets are supposed to send Omer Asik to the Atlanta Hawks. If the deal is done the Hawks will have a seven footer who is capable of generating a double-double and can cause some match up problems on the inside for opponents. We will have to revisit Atlanta's line up when/if this deal gets done.
Also on the free agent front, O.J. Mayo and the Milwaukee Bucks have agreed to a three year deal worth $24 million. Mayo averaged 15.3 points and 4.4 assists last season with the Dallas Mavericks. The Golden State Warriors have come to a verbal agreement with Andre Iguodala, it is reported to be worth $48 million for four years. The Dallas Mavericks have agreed to a deal with Jose Calderon for four years worth $29 million.Tags: Andre Iguodala, Atlanta, Atlanta Hawks, Basketball, DeMarre Carroll, Dwight Howard, Jose Calderon, Josh Smith, NBA, O.J.
