We are already about a little past a quarter of the way of the 2012-13 NBA season and we already have plenty to talk about. The Lakers are still trying to find themselves as Steve Nash makes his return to the floor, DeMarcus Cousins has been suspended three times already (by the Kings and the league), the Brooklyn Nets/New York Knicks rivalry has been as good as advertised (even though it seems like they play once a week and the New Orleans Hornets seem to have decided to be called the Pelicans from now on.

At this point in the season the MVP race is heating up and fans are taking notice. According to the fans, this contest is highly up for debate. So, we offer up the top three candidates so far and a reason why they should be the league's Most Valuable Player at this point.

  1. LeBron James: LBJ is averaging 25.4 points, 6.8 assists and 8.5 rebounds per game and he has scored at least 20 points in every game this season. He is not leading the league in points, but he looks as strong as ever and the Heat will be atop the East when its Money Time (playoffs).
  2. Carmelo Anthony: Melo has been coming up big for the New York Knicks. Many are saying that he has matured as a leader and it is showing in his game, Anthony is averaging 28.3 points per game. Currently the Knicks are 20-7 and are second in the East behind the Miami Heat.
  3. Kevin Durant: KD's averages in almost  all categories are at a career high pace and the Oklahoma City Thunder are 21-5 (best record in the NBA). After losing James Harden many doubted what the Thunder could do and how far they can go, if Durant can keep this pace throughout the season OKC will be right back in the Finals.
