The rumor had been out there and now it has been confirmed (sorta!) by the Atlanta Hawks that they were reaching out to Danny Ferry about the soon to be vacancy of General Manager.  Ferry was GM of the Cleveland Cavaliers when LeBron James and company went to the NBA Finals. He has also been involved with the San Antonio Spurs' front office twice and that is the place he would be coming from if he comes to Atlanta. It has also been rumored that Ferry was up for the GM position for the Philadelphia 76ers. Atlanta needs to make a move as current GM, Rick Sund's, contract comes to an end at the end of the month. Sund has also sounded as if he were ready to retire or thinking about coming back to the Hawks as a consultant.  For now Sund is still here and the NBA Draft is right around the corner, so that means that unless the Hawks move swiftly on signing Danny Ferry (doubtful) that Sund would be the man picking the future Atlanta Hawks.  So far, the city and fans have reacted favorable to the notion of Ferry becoming the next GM for Atlanta.

Another rumor involving the Atlanta Hawks involves moves that could possibly be made in the upcoming draft. ESPN insiders have thrown out scenarios where the Atlanta Hawks could offer to trade Al Horford to the Charlotte Bobcats for their second overall pick.  The same rumor would have the Hawks drafting Thomas Robinson with the pick obtained for the Bobcats.  The thinking there  would be to acquire a low post scoring presence anticipating having to move Josh Smith before the trade deadline next season. If that were an option for the Hawks(BIG IF!) , I would hope that they would not rule out looking at other low post talents like an Andre Drummond (UConn) and others.

Also, according to Michael Cunningham of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Atlanta Hawks would also like to retain as much of their veteran assembled bench as possible. The guys that came off of the bench for Atlanta felt as if they had an identity with the team and developed a respectful relationship with the rest of the team. It only seems logical for the Hawks to want to return most of those guys with the salary cap struggles that they will be facing but most of those guys are going to be unrestricted free agents and would probably like to test the waters before committing back to the Hawks.
