Koetter's collegiate head coaching career began in Boise before he eventually wound up in the NFL. Last season, Koetter and defensive coordinator Mike Nolan both interviewed for various head coaching positions, but both came back to be the offensive and defensive coordinators for the Falcons this season.
Under Koetter's leadership, the Falcons have posted consecutive back to back top ten passing offenses in the NFL in 2012 and 2013. Koetter took a different approach from former OC Mike Mularkey's conservative play calling, and started having Matt Ryan throw screen passes, shovel passes and 40 yard bombs down the field. But running the football has been a different story. This year, the Falcons are 30th in yards rushing per game, and last year the Falcons finished 29th.
There is nothing else to go on based off the initial report in terms of which way the Broncos are leaning regarding their other candidates for the head coaching position.
