With all the losing and bad news recently, here's a blast from the past that will make any Falcons fan smile and feel incredibly nostalgic.  If this news doesn't, you're either too young, ignorant, or you're not a real Falcons fan.

Kicker Morten Andersen, the NFL's all time leader in points scored with 2,544 points coming from his extra points and field goals, has made it to the semi-finals for election into the NFL's hall of fame.

Andersen had a colorful career, and was the Falcons place kicker off and on for nine years.  His biggest moment came in the winter of 1999 in which he nailed a game winning 38 yard field goal in the NFC championship game against the Vikings to send the Falcons to the Super Bowl.  His legacy was forever cemented in Atlanta sports lore for sending our once struggling franchise to its first and unfortunately, only Super Bowl.

The veteran played for the Falcons, Saints, Giants, Chiefs and Vikings from 1982-2007.  Now that's longevity, a 26 year career. Andersen wound up playing his final season for the Falcons.

Andersen joins 25 other hopefuls for induction into the hall of fame in which more cuts will be made in early January.

Andersen is currently not a member of the Falcons ring of honor, and maybe this news will give Arthur Blank and company some motivation to place him amongst other former Falcons greats, regardless of whether or not Andersen makes it into the hall of fame.

Only three place kickers have been elected into the NFL hall of fame.  The short list is made up of George Blanda, Lou Groza and Jan Stenerud.

Blanda was also a quarterback and Groza was surprisingly, also a tackle.  Stenerud is the only kicker who did not play another position to make it to the hall of fame.
