After the Falcons released John Abraham in the middle of a contract, the Falcons all time leader in sacks was devastated.
Fans were confused as well. Even though GM Thomas Dimitroff released Abraham purely from a salary cap standpoint, it was still unclear as to how this would improve the defensive line by taking away its most viable pass rusher.
Now the Falcons will square off against John Abraham and his new team, the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. Abraham has been honest about the preceding stating that, "I got cut, so it was like I didn't feel like I was wanted anymore." He elaborated even more saying that the reason he was cut was purely a "business decision" on the part of Dimitroff and Coach Mike Smith.
Despite Abraham's age (35), he's still a quality pass rusher and is better than anyone else on the Falcons roster, outside of maybe Osi Umenyiora, his replacement. Umenyiora is the only one who holds a candle to Abraham on the Falcons defensive line that has sorely missed his presence this year.
Abraham will have a chance to prove that the Falcons were wrong in releasing him, and that he shouldn't have been one of the many that were cut over the offseason in preparation for Matt Ryan's $106.5 million dollar contract.
Abraham's release may have been a business decision, but there is still unfinished business between Abraham and the Falcons. Abraham has a chance to prove to his former team, that there's still gas left in his tank. He has a chance to prove that to toss him to the side of the road was most unwise.
Watch Abraham this weekend. He already proved last week that he still has it by recording two sacks and two forced fumbles against Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks last week. It was vintage Abraham.
The Falcons offensive line will have its hands full this weekend with their former D-line leader.
