As if yesterday's news couldn't get any worse after the loss, we're now learning that Roddy White's ankle injury he suffered in the preseason is far more severe than we thought. White only had two catches for 19 yards, and was very limited in his action yesterday.
This was expected, as the Falcons had told the media that White was going to be limited during yesterday's game.
Still, it was hard to see him not be his usual effective self, and now, we're learning this may be the status quo for the immediate future. White had this to say reporters after the game:
…it will be maybe a few more weeks before I can go out there and be myself.
To say the offense wasn't in rhythm yesterday would be an understatement, and we saw exactly what kind of impact White makes on the game when he is healthy, and when he isn't healthy. A healthy Roddy White transforms that offense, an unhealthy Roddy White limits it.
Not that the offense's success rests on the health of White. The offensive line is mostly to blame for this loss as Matt Ryan didn't have time to even go through one read before he had to make a decision, while Drew Brees had enough time to pontificate on how he was going to spend his Sunday night while he was in the pocket.
Still, not having White at full strength hurts this team, which is so reliant on its high powered offense to carry them. When the offense isn't running at full tilt, it can be rendered ineffective.
We saw the results of this yesterday. We could be seeing it for the next few weeks to come with a limited Roddy White.
