The preseason is almost over as tonight is the third of four preseason games that the Falcons are set to play.  Tonight will be the final night you get to see the Falcons starters before the first game against New Orleans, as coach Mike Smith doesn't like playing his starters in the final preseason game.

Here are a few things to watch for tonight's game against the Tennessee Titans.

THIS WILL BE LIKE A REGULAR SEASON GAME

Unlike the first two games, the coaches have constructed a game plan both offensively and defensively to execute.  The first two games were just everyone getting their feet wet so to speak, or trying their best just to make the team.  Now this is being treated as a true dress rehearsal.

The Falcons first team will play until at least the third quarter.  So this will be a good chance to see how the Falcons stack up with another team's starters for an extended period of time.

BUILDING OFF SUCCESS

Last week we saw the Falcons breathe some life into the running game, as Steven Jackson and company were able to run quite effectively on Baltimore's first team defense.  The offensive line did a great job of making some holes for Jackson, so it'll be interesting to see if that effectiveness can carry over to tonight's game.

NO MORE TOUCHDOWNS

Special Teams will be on watch tonight.  After giving up a punt return for a touchdown last week and the week before that, it will be important for the special teams to shut down the Titans' return game.  Plays like these can be game changers, and giving up touchdowns on special teams cannot become a habit.

LAMAR HOLMES TRYING TO NAIL DOWN STARTING RT SPOT

Lamar Holmes is also on watch as the RT is having to adjust to playing at the NFL level at a quick rate.  It'll be interesting to see how he well he protects Matt Ryan tonight after missing on some blocks against Baltimore last week.  Overall though, he turned in another solid performance.  If he can do well this week it appears that he's all but assured the starting right tackle job.

The analysis of what was to be was spot on. Hopefully the morale of the Falcons will be sufficient to send them into the regular season!

After this game, I am wondering what’s going on. The team has a long ways to go if they are going to have a successful season. However, there were some bright spots but not enough to make me feel optimistic at this time. I am looking forward to see what happens on the first opening game that counts.

If this is more like a regular season game with the first string, watch out and get to work Falcons!
