Projected starting FB Bradie Ewing has been out of practice since early August due to injury. The information on the injury was never released by the team, but whatever it was, it was severe enough to hold out Ewing from football action for almost a month.
However, Ewing has returned this week, and is practicing with the Falcons first team offense. As the projected first team FB, it's important that Ewing gets as many reps as he can so that he can be ready for the regular season. Ewing was drafted in the fifth round of the 2012 NFL Draft to take over for former FB Ovie Mughelli. Ewing had a season ending injury early in 2012 and never saw the field.
A lot rides on Ewing's shoulders this year. The Falcons haven't had a reliable FB since Mughelli, and need Ewing to be an effective lead blocker for new Falcons RB Steven Jackson. Ewing's inability to stay healthy is a concern heading into the regular season, particularly since he's to be an important part of the run offense.
