The Atlanta Braves have officially shut the door on any comeback attempt this season on reliever Jonny Venters, who has been experiencing elbow discomfort during Tommy John rehab, braves.com reports.

Venters had his second Tommy John surgery last year and has been battling elbow pain for the last month. He ended a bullpen session early last week.

"Maybe the second time around, it just takes a little longer," Fredi Gonzalez said. "I told him to just keep plugging away."

The Braves have sent Venters to see the dreaded Dr. James Andrews, who performed Venters' Tommy John surgery in 2005 and last year.

Venters placed second in relief appearances from 2010-12 with 230.
