The 32-year-old Doumit hit 14 homers in 538 plate appearances last season. Atlanta currently plans on using him as a power bat coming off the bench, though he can also play first base, corner outfield and catcher.
Gilmartin has never lived up to his first round pick status with a 12-20 record over two years in the minors. He had an ugly 5.74 ERA with Triple-A Gwinnett in 2013.
It may sound crazy, but the Braves may also be positioning themselves to replace B.J. Upton if has another terrible year. Doumit has 400 or more at bats in four of his nine seasons.
