The St. Louis Cardinals spent the regular season as one of the best fielding teams in baseball, but three errors put them in a huge hole in their 8-1 loss to the Boston Red Sox in game one of the 2013 World Series.
The Cards had three errors, two by Pete Kozma, that led to four unearned Boston runs. Kozma's first error came on what would have been a first inning-ending double play, which led to Mike Napoli hitting a three-run double off Adam Wainwright. Kozma also booted another double play ball in the second, leading to two more runs.
"We had a wakeup call," manager Mike Matheny said on mlb.com. "This is not the kind of team that we've been all season. And they're frustrated [and] I'm sure embarrassed to a point."
