The Atlanta Braves, motivated by Fredi Gonzalez and Alex Wood's ejections at the hands of C.B. Bucknor in the fifth inning, defeated the Washington Nationals 5-2 on Wednesday to move their magic number to two.
Things got heated when Bucknor called ball four on a pitch from Wood on a full count to Jayson Werth with the bases loaded in the fifth. Gonzalez's protest got him run from the game, and after Wood was removed after Bryce Harper's sacrifice fly, he was tossed after telling Bucknor how bad his performance was.
Uggla's homer gave him a three-game hitting streak as he is suddenly hot after being out of the lineup for eight of the last nine games.
The Braves were able to salvage a road sweep at the hands of the Nationals, though they were able to cut their magic number to two. A win and a Nationals loss would result in the Braves' first National League East title since 2005.
