Uggla took batting practice on Tuesday in Atlanta and has traveled with the team to St. Louis for more BP before returning to Atlanta for a recheck. If he continues to improve, he could see action in rehab starts over the weekend before coming off the disabled list on August 28.
Uggla's vision has improved since the surgery and he must now begin to produce down the stretch for the Braves. His batting average of .186 is the lowest of his career and he is near the top of the league in strikeouts.
The Braves need Uggla's power in the playoffs and, although his average is low, he remains a dangerous hitter in the lineup.
The ability to give Uggla time off to rest and the surgery to improve his vision should provide a boost to the Braves lineup as they march closer to the postseason.
