The Braves flew from Flushings, New York, to St. Louis, Missouri after a 2 game set with the New York Mets to prepare to take on the Cardinals in a 3 game set starting Thursday night.
In their 3 game series earlier in the year, the Cardinals found themselves swept right out of the series, as the Braves began their 14 game winning streak with 3 wins at Turner Field.
Unfortunately, the Braves will be without their star right fielder Jason Heyward for the series, as well as the rest of the regular season after being hit in the jaw by Jon Niese in Wednesday's game against the Mets. Heyward has been extremely productive in the lead-off position since Fredi Gonzalez adjusted the Braves' line-up, and will be sorely missed.
Paul Maholm will also make his first start since being placed on the DL in late July with a contusion on his left wrist. After a few starts at Single-A Rome, Maholm will take the mound once again for Atlanta in Thursday night's game.
Thursday, 8:15pm on Fox SportSouth: Braves LHP Paul Maholm (9-9, 4.41 ERA) vs Cardinals RHP Joe Kelly (4-3, 3.01 ERA)
Sunday, 2:15pm on Fox SportSouth: Braves LHP Mike Minor (12-5, 3.06 ERA) vs Cardinals RHP Lance Lynn (12-7, 3.97 ERA)
