Heyward went was already running on an infield single by Justin Upton in the second inning when Todd Frazier's throw got away, allowing Heyward to advance to third base. It was unclear whether Heyward tweaked his hamstring while running or if he injured it on the in-between slide he made.
In what should be a good sign, Heyward left the field under his own power. The team will reevaluate Heyward before Friday's game.
Reed Johnson replaced Heyward in right field.
