Make no mistake, the ceremony the Atlanta Braves put on for Chipper Jones and his jersey retirement was great, but there was one subtly awkward moment most people missed. When Chipper thanked his former Braves teammates who now play for the Arizona Diamondbacks, it seems he didn't know that Eric Hinske had been designated for assignment about an hour earlier.
That's because when the Diamondbacks activated Eric Chavez from the disabled list, they had to make room for him.
Hinske, 35, hit just .173 with one homer and 17 strikeouts in 52 at-bats this season. He hit .236 with 23 homers and 96 RBIs in a mostly pinch-hitting role for the Braves from 2010-12.
