It's not even halfway through the 2013 season, and it's pretty obvious the Atlanta Braves got the better end of their trade with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim to acquire Jordan Walden for Tommy Hanson.
Walden has put together 10 straight scoreless appearances since coming off the disabled list on May 29. His ERA stands at 2.70, and in 23 1/3 innings, he's struck out 26 and walked just four.
Hanson, on the other hand, has posted a 5.10 ERA in just nine starts for the Angels while battling injuries.
“That was a steal,” a Major League executive told Ken Rosenthal.
Rosenthal wonders if the Angels wish they had that deal back, or at least used Walden in another trade. Braves fans are pretty content with it though, considering Hanson wasn't so hot last year (13-10, 4.48 ERA) and battled shoulder and back issues in 2011.
Walden has also been indispensable out of the Braves bullpen, serving as the primary setup man since Jonny Venters and Eric O'Flaherty are lost for the year with Tommy John surgery.Tags: Atlanta, Atlanta Braves, Baseball, Eric O'Flaherty, Jonny Venters, Jordan Walden, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, MLB, Tommy Hanson
