Eric O'Flaherty has been battling a sore back, and the Atlanta Braves plan on holding him out of Grapefruit League play until next week, braves.com reports.
The Braves note that he will still have about as much time as usual, because the World Baseball Classic pushed the start of Spring Training up a week and allowing O'Flaherty to make his exhibition debut next week.
"He's fine," Fredi Gonzalez said. "We're just going to be smart with him and use that extra week to make sure he does not get too ready. I'd rather him start a little later than start a little sooner and then back him off."
O'Flaherty has a history of back issues, but the Braves are generally able to give him some extra time off when his discomfort flares up. He has a 1.31 ERA in 172 appearances over the last two seasons.
