Atlanta Braves “Screaming Indian” Batting Practice Caps Featured in MLB 2013: the Show

After a boatload of public outcry just a couple weeks ago, the Atlanta Braves renounced their plans to use their plans to use the "Screaming Indian" logo on their new batting practice caps for the 2013 season (Though we at Braves 101 still maintain he looks more like he's laughing). Despite the Braves brass insistence that the decision was always to go with the more traditional "A" script, evidence is mounting against that story.

As opposed to the Indian, the Braves went with their "A" in red with a white outline. They then said it was just one of many designs and they hadn't settled on one at the time the leak of the Indian cap.

"I like the selection we made this year," Braves president John Schuerholz said at the time. "We had a variety of choices that we looked at, some more thoroughly than others. But at the end, we liked this one. The fact that one person somewhere offered his personal opinion about one of our options, that was important to him."

But now, a screenshot of the video game MLB 13: The Show has surfaced on operationsports.com that clearly shows the original Indian head design as the Braves' batting practice cap. New uniforms are submitted far in advance, so this bit of evidence suggests the Braves really did intend to use the Indian head.

Combine that with the fact that on the mlb.com shop, every other Major League team's batting practice cap is available to purchase and ship immediately, but the Braves' cap won't ship until March 15.

So it seems the Braves have some explaining to do. Stay tuned to Braves 101 for updates.
