With Martin Prado traded and no other real candidates in the lineup, it looks like Andrelton Simmons will get a shot at the lead-off spot on Opening Day for the Atlanta Braves, Mark Bowman reports.
Simmons, who won the Carolina League batting title in 2011, hit .289 with a .335 on-base percentage in 182 plate appearances in 2012, mostly while hitting eighth in the lineup.
Bowman is quick to point out that the lead-off batter's stats don't necessarily make or break a team. The Cincinnati Reds had only a .254 OBP from their lead-off spot in 2012 on their way to 97 wins, but the Chicago Cubs lost 101 with a .346 lead-off OBP.
