Atlanta Braves prospect Evan Gattis will not be returning to the Venezuelan winter league for their playoffs, Dave O'Brien reports.
Gattis and the Braves had agreed that Gattis would not return after the holidays for the playoffs, though his team, Zulia, requested that he come back. Their first game is Thursday against Magallanes.
Regardless, Gattis made a splash by tying for the league lead with 16 homers in his 54 games played. He also led the league in slugging (.595), second in OPS (.960) and third in RBIs (44).
Gattis mainly played as a DH for Zulia, mainly because their left field needs had been met. He figures to play in left and perhaps even behind the plate for the Braves in Spring Training.
