Former Atlanta Braves outfielder Matt Diaz has agreed to a minor league deal with the New York Yankees, Mark Feinsand reports.
Feinsand also reports that the deal includes an invitation to Spring Training, where Diaz will compete for a bench spot with the Bronx Bombers. The contract, assuming Diaz makes the 25-man roster, would be worth $1.2 million, plus incentives, which could equal up to $800,000, Marc Craig reports.
Diaz hit just .222 in 51 games for the Braves last season while playing through a thumb injury that required surgery and ended his season in August.
In seven seasons in Atlanta, Diaz has posted a .299 batting average, but his real strength is against lefties, against whom Diaz boasts a .324 career average.
