The Atlanta Braves expressed their confidence in manager Fredi Gonzalez by picking up his option, extending his contract through 2014.

After the Braves' collapse in September 2011, Gonzalez guided them to a National League Wild Card berth before being downed by the St. Louis Cardinals in a controversial play-in game. Regardless, Gonzalez sees improvement over his tenure already.

"Our goal is, like every year, to get to the postseason, and we did that this year," Gonzalez told braves.com. "That's our goal next year, to get to the postseason. Hopefully you catch on fire, you catch a couple breaks and you get a little deeper."

The massive difference, of course, is that Gonzalez will have to lead a Braves team without Chipper Jones for the first time since 1995.
