The Atlanta Braves can now put their quest for a center fielder to rest. Ken Rosenthal reports they have agreed to terms with B.J. Upton.
The deal, which is still pending a physical, is worth $75.25 million over five years, Rosenthal reported later.
Atlanta is paying a hefty sum to replace an All-Star quality outfielder in Michael Bourn, but the club figures they get a younger player who possesses speed as well as power, leaving them with at least the power as his speed fades with age.
The Braves, who were previously burned by a free agent deal gone wrong with Rafael Furcal in 2008, were thankfully spared any drama when Upton changed his Twitter avatar to the Braves' "A" logo, Yahoo! Sports reports.
Upton hit .246 with 28 homers and 31 stolen bases last season with the Tampa Bay Rays.
