David Ross Wanted Longer Contract than Atlanta Braves Offered

When former Atlanta Braves catcher David Ross confirmed that he had indeed signed with the Boston Red Sox, he also indicated that the Red Sox were willing to make a longer commitment.

Ross signed a two-year deal worth $6.2 million with Boston, which was double the length of time Atlanta was willing to commit to, reports. Ross will be 36 on Opening Day, and the Braves were aiming to sign him to a one-year deal, bringing him back for a fifth season. reports that Ross "never gained a sense that the Braves were going to provide him what he was seeking," so he took the job in Boston.

Ross is largely regarded as the best backup catcher in the big leagues. He hit .269 with 24 homers and a .816 OPS in four seasons with the Braves.
