The Atlanta Braves have signed right-handed relief pitcher Wirfin Obispo to a minor league contract with an invitation to Spring Training, Jon Paul Morosi tweets.
The 28-year-old prospect is a Dominican native and spent 2007-11 in Japan before rejoining the Cincinnatti Reds organization (he pitched one season with them in 2006). He is largely a relief pitcher, but he made 13 spot starts last season between Double and Triple-A.
Obispo put up a respectable 3.00 ERA in 96 innings last season, and he will probably be used to provided organizational bullpen depth.
