The Atlanta Braves have claimed Jordan Schafer off waivers from the Houston Astros, mlbtraderumors.com reports.

Schafer originally played in the Braves organization from 2005-11 before being shipped to Houston in July 2011 as part of the Michael Bourn trade.

Schafer hit .211 with 27 stolen bases in 106 games last season while spending most of August with a shoulder injury. There are murmurs that the move may be insurance in case things with Bourn don't work out, but let's hope it doesn't come to that.

Good to know if Boras jerks us around on Bourn enough we have at least SOME insurance. Not crazy about Schafer, but I don’t mind him – especially if Boras tries to break the bank

    • I’d prefer they go after Angel Pagan, who has such similar numbers to Bourn (minus steals) for half the price. I really don’t see how Schafer could be starting material. Hoping they see something we haven’t yet.
