Arizona Cardinals quarterback Ryan Lindley can certainly do the math.

caller on the 2014 opening day roster. Veteran Carson Palmer is the starter and Drew Stanton is slated to be his backup. That leaves Lindley and fourth round draft pick Logan Thomas to vie for the remaining spot on Arizona's quarterback depth chart.

The problem for Lindley is that it would be hard to see the Red Birds cutting Thomas after they drafted him just last month. Thomas would probably have to have a brutal training camp for that to happen. That seems unlikely with Thomas' rocket arm but he is still a rookie.

With that being said, Lindley is preparing himself as best he can for the task that lies ahead of him even though the odds are clearly stacked against him.

Let the chips fall where they may. Lindley has been very friendly and helpful to Thomas so far during minicamps and OTA's.

Lindley stated his feelings via azcardinals.com:

“It’s weird saying this because I love the game and love competing and I’m a football player, but it’s what I do, it’s not who I am,” Lindley said. “I want to give my best effort, make sure I am a good teammate and a good player for the coaches and things will work out the way they will. If the training I get here gets me ready for a job in the real world, so be it. It’s bigger than how I react on the field. It’s how I react to the people around me."

Palmer has reacted quite well to Lindley's task at hand.

"Ryan couldn't handle the situation any better," Palmer explained. "He's good with Logan, where he could just go into a shell and say, 'I'm not going to talk to anybody.' He's just in a tough spot but he's a fighter. He's going to prepare and make the decision as hard as he can. I hate to see a guy in that spot but I love to see a guy in that spot handling it as well as he handles it."

It should make for a very interesting training camp competition starting on July 26.

Let the best man win.
