The seven-time Pro Bowler had one of his worst NFL seasons in 2012 and it was not his fault. Still in his prime, the University of Pittsburgh product was saddled with terrible quarterback play and it led to a very poor campaign by Fitzgerald's lofty standards – 71 receptions for 794 yards and just four touchdowns, a career-low.
However, good news is here for fantasy owners and Red Birds fans. With veteran quarterback Carson Palmer behind center (who has tossed 189 career touchdown passes), look for Fitzgerald to have a major bounce back season. In standard 12-team leagues he has been selected in either the late second round or early third round for the most part. In our two leagues, Fitzgerald was selected in the late second round in both. That's great value.
Palmer has a strong arm and will help Fitzgerald immensely. The Cardinals also have receivers that can draw coverage away from #11 in the very talented Michael Floyd and veteran Andre Roberts. Mix in quick backs like Ryan Williams, Stepfan Taylor and Andre Ellington catching passes out of the backfield and defenses cannot focus solely on Fitzgerald.
If you still have a draft upcoming (like we sometimes do), grab Fitzgerald in the second round with confidence.
He should enjoy a terrific 2013 season.
