Arizona's first round draft choice this year was placed on injured reserve yesterday and is done for the 2013 season. The University of North Carolina product broke his leg in Arizona's 24-7 setback to the San Diego Chargers last Saturday. He was being counted on to help improve a Cardinals offensive line that allowed a league-high 58 sacks in 2012.
“Based on the medical prognosis and weighing all of the other factors, we decided that placing him on IR made the most sense for the team and for Jonathan,” General Manager Steve Keim said in a release provided by the team via profootballtalk.com. ” Knowing his work ethic and commitment, we have no doubt Jonathan will come out of this experience fully ready to be a key contributor next season and for many more beyond that.”
The Red Birds also released the following 13 players, bringing their roster to 61 in advance of today's deadline to reach the 53-man roster limit: Defensive tackle David Carter, safety Jonathon Amaya, guard Chilo Rachal, safety Curtis Taylor, wide receiver Mike Thomas, wide receiver Charles Hawkins, center Adam Bice, wide receiver Dan Buckner, tight end Alex Gottlieb, guard Senio Kelemete, linebacker Zack Nash, linebacker Colin Parker and tight end Richard Quinn.
The Cardinals open the regular season at St. Louis on Sept. 8.
