It was a big game for players looking to secure a final roster spot. The last game of the preseason is always the final chance for players on the bubble to impress their coaches one last time before final cuts are made.
Even though he was playing mostly against backups, quarterback Ryan Lindley looked sharp as he tries to secure a spot on Arizona's 53-man roster. The San Diego State University native tossed a pair of second half touchdowns and finished with 214 yards passing and no interceptions against the Broncos.
This game was very important to Lindley because the Red Birds are trying to decide whether to keep two or three quarterbacks on their final roster. Carson Palmer is the starter while Drew Stanton is number two on the depth chart. Lindley is out of practice squad eligibility so he will either make the Cardinals team or will be looking for work with another NFL squad soon.
"I love the city of Phoenix and I love Arizona so I would love to be here," Lindley said via USA Today. "I just have to wait to see where the chips fall [today], and I'll land on my feet."
Whether his feet land in Glendale remains to be seen at this point.
Jeff King to have knee surgery
The 30-year-old King is expected to miss at least a month. The Virginia Tech product has been experiencing some swelling in his knee recently. During the offseason, King underwent a scope on his knee.
