Like scoring touchdowns while in the red zone. In their two games, the Red Birds have scored just one touchdown in nine red zone opportunities, including an 0-for-5 effort Saturday against the Cowboys.
It's one thing to struggle in pre-season when you're trying to get the kinks out and work on some things but a ratio like this in the regular season would be a big problem. The Cardinals are adopting to a new offensive scheme, new quarterback and a new head coach but they need to punch some drives into the end zone.
What had to annoy head coach Bruce Arians was that his team didn't execute some simple plays against Dallas. For example, Carson Palmer under threw Rashard Mendenhall on a fourth down pass at the Dallas seven-yard line. Some wide receivers did not make proper route adjustments as well. These things can drive a coach crazy.
**Elsewhere, quarterback Ryan Lindley, currently third on the depth chart, has continued to impress. He needs a strong training camp and so far things have gone well. The San Diego State University product completed four of six passes against the Cowboys for 52 yards.
Overall, Lindley has a 104.4 QB rating and has completed 64 percent of his passes (7-for-11) in two pre-season contests. We'll see if he will continue to excel when the Red Birds host the Chargers this Saturday at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale. Game time is 7 PM (MST).
