Veteran quarterback Carson Palmer has been in the NFL for a long time now, and he has seen many offensive schemes in his day. This year's version, his first with the Arizona Cardinals, is his toughest one yet.

And he loves it.

The terminology that head coach Bruce Arians has installed is different than any offensive scheme Palmer previously used in Cincinnati or Oakland. It's a little complicated but the 33-year old signal-caller can handle it.

"There’s a ton of concepts I’ve never run and a ton of route combinations I’ve never run,” Palmer explained to azcentral.com. "That’s one of the things that’s taken us a little more time than we’d like. We’d all like to have it down pat and know it inside and out right now and be completely comfortable, but there’s so much to it, so many adjustments, and so many post-snap adjustments that you don’t just install it and have it."

So what does Palmer need to do to get comfortable with it?

“It’s something you need to rep and rep and rep and rep and that’s what we’re going through right now is the learning phases of going through so many reps and seeing different looks and different coverages and just getting more comfortable as we go," he told azcentral.com.

The USC product has been working extensively for months in OTAs and mincamps with his receivers and tight ends. Even with all that practice, Arians' offensive system is still a challenge even when you have 189 career touchdown passes on your resume.

It's a challenge that Palmer embraces.

“I’m very comfortable with being uncomfortable,” Palmer said, “and with being challenged, too. This is my fourth offense in four years. And this is the most challenging offense that I’ve been in."

“But I enjoy the challenge. It keeps you fresh, it keeps you sharp. There’s no sleeping in. You’re up in the morning studying, preparing for the walkthrough and then preparing for practice. That’s what makes this game so great, not just the challenge on Sundays, but the challenge in training camp and OTAs, just to stay on top of your craft.”
