After so many years in Flagstaff, training camp for the Arizona Cardinals is now entrenched in Glendale, right at the University of Phoenix Stadium.
It still seems strange, doesn't it?
Fans must certainly miss the beautiful mountain scenery of Flagstaff and you know they miss the cooler weather. But what do some of the players think of the change so far?
“It’s pretty good, man, just being in the city,” said linebacker Karlos Dansby via azcentral.com. “Not having to go way up to (Flagstaff), driving in the rain, raining every evening, not having to deal with? It’s cool.”
Dansby is now in his second stint with the Red Birds so he has seen what both venues have to offer. Up in Flagstaff, players were shuttled between buildings at Northern Arizona University. In Glendale, the Cardinals stay at the Renaissance Hotel and Spa and travel a short distance to and from the stadium.
Not only that, but how are the beds at the Renaissance Levi Brown?
“Amazing,” Brown told azcentral.com. “If you want to know, amazing."
Red Birds fans seem to have responded as well. Crowds have been larger overall in Glendale – last weekend one practice session drew 9,100 people.
That's quite impressive indeed.
Injury bug biting running backs
Although it's still very early in training camp, the injury bug has been especially rough on running backs so far.
New Cardinals running back Rashard Mendenhall is currently out with knee tendonitis. It’s not believed to be serious, coach Bruce Arians indicated, but Mendenhall needs a couple of days of rest. He is expected to practice tomorrow.
Injury-plagued Ryan Williams continues to miss time with a knee issue. He’s questionable for Arizona's opening pre-season game against Green Bay at Lambeau Field on Friday. That leaves Arians with just three healthy running backs: Stepfan Taylor, Alfonso Smith and Andre Ellington.
